Introduction
Kerala, one of the most exotic states in India, is located on the western
Ghats of Indian peninsula. Known for a rich variety of locales abundant with
virgin beauty of the nature, this state offers a rare chance to unwind
yourself. Numerous wildlife sanctuaries, national parks, serene backwaters
and sun-kissed beaches are the major tourist attractions of the state.
Ayurvedic resorts and Yoga Centres have emerged as a prime source of
attraction for the foreign tourists in recent years. Kerala has a profound
historical background. One of the mythological character of the Hindus,
Parshurama, chose this land to perform the penance, as the myths suggest.
Historical evidences of Kerala date back to Mauryan empire (third century
BC). The great emperor Ashoka has mentioned this state in his inscriptions
as an independent kingdom in south of his empire. The greatest philosopher
of India, Adi Shankara was also born in this state. Chera and Venad kingdoms
and the cities of Calicut, Travancore and Mysore also played a key role in
the historical developments of the state.
Climate in Kerala
As the state is very much diverse in landscape, its climate is varied in
nature. Cool and refreshing climate of hills is very much different from hot
and humid climate of plains. Average annual rainfall of Kerala is almost
three times higher than Karnataka and two times higher than Tamilnadu.
Summer, winter, north east monsoon and south west monsoon, these four types
of climate are experienced here. Summer starts here in February and
continues till May. Mercury keeps soaring throughout this period. The period
between December to February experiences the winter. October to December are
the months of north east monsoon. South West Monsoon starts with the month
of June and ends in September.
How to Reach Kerala

'God's
Own Country' Kerala is easily approachable by any modes of transport. Total
railway route of the state is 1050 km with around 200 railway stations and
101 trains catering to the needs of the travelers properly. Indian Railway
has 933 km of broad gauge lines and about 117 km of meter gauge lines. You
can travel from any major railhead of the country and come to explore this
exotic state. Three national highways which pass through the state are NH
17, NH 47 and NH 49 , with the total length of of 1011 km.
Airports in Kerala
The state of Kerala has two international airports Thiruvananthapuram and
Kochi. Another airport is at Kozhikode. It makes this state easily
accessible for the foreign tourists to reach here by air.
